FAQ
What is in a Macunaíma?
A Macunaíma is made with 45 ml white cachaça, 20 ml lime juice, 25 ml honey syrup (3:1 honey to water), 7 ml Fernet and Ice.
Is a Macunaíma strong?
A Macunaíma is spirit-forward: little mixer, and the alcohol shows.
When should you serve a Macunaíma?
A Macunaíma fits an aperitif, a classic and a Brazilian table.
What can I use instead of cachaça?
Cachaça is a Brazilian cane spirit. Without it, the drink is no longer the same recipe. An unaged rhum agricole is the closest stand-in; white rum is a last resort and will taste different.
What is the bartender tip for a Macunaíma?
Use a jigger with inner markings for the 7 ml of Fernet. It is an intensely bitter, assertive ingredient, and any extra will overpower the balance of the drink.
